What Is a Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner?

A reverse cycle air conditioner can both cool your home in summer and heat it in winter — all in one unit. It works by reversing the refrigeration cycle.

That’s why it’s called “reverse cycle” — and why it’s one of the most energy-efficient ways to heat and cool your home year-round.

✅ Cool in summer

✅ Warm in winter

✅ Energy efficient and cost-effective

✅ Perfect for Queensland’s unpredictable weather

What is a Split System?

Split System air conditioners are made up of two parts:

Indoor Unit – mounted inside your home and responsible for cooling or heating the air

Outdoor Unit – contains the compressor and is installed outside

These two units are connected via refrigerant piping and electrical cabling.

Back-to-Back Installation – The Standard Option

The most cost-effective and popular installation method is a back-to-back setup.

This means:

  • The indoor unit is mounted on an external wall

  • The outdoor unit sits directly outside on the ground

  • Maximum 3m of piping and 2m of ducting are included.

What's Included in a Standard Back-to-Back Installation?

✅ Indoor unit mounted on external wall

✅ Outdoor unit installed on a rubber mat or polyslab base

✅ Up to 3 metres of refrigeration piping & cabling

✅ Up to 2 metres of duct cover

✅ Electrical supply up to 15 metres

✅ Weatherproof isolator switch at outdoor unit

*2.5kW–3.5kW systems are connected to an existing power circuit

4.0kW–9.4kW systems are connected to a new circuit with a safety switch*

Non-Standard Installation? No Problem

Some homes require alternative installation methods due to:

  • Uneven or sloped ground

  • Garden beds or limited access

  • Longer distances between indoor and outdoor units

  • Drainage through the roof cavity

We can tailor a solution for your home with a no-obligation quote based on your unique setup.
