Are Your Smoke Alarms Up to Standard?

Smoke alarms save lives — and they’re now required by law.

From 1 January 2017, Queensland law requires that:

Any smoke alarms over 10 years old, or faulty ones, must be replaced
New alarms must be interconnected, photoelectric smoke alarms
All alarms must comply with Australian Standard 3786–2014

Photoelectric Smoke Alarms

These detect visible smoke particles, making them more effective at identifying smouldering fires. They’re also less prone to false alarms from cooking or steam.

Ionisation Smoke Alarms

These older-style alarms are no longer compliant and should be replaced.
