Is your home and family protected with working smoke alarms?  Smoke alarms save lives.  By law, all homes and units in Queensland must be fitted with smoke alarms.

There are two types of smoke alarms.  Photoelectric Smoke Alarms and Ionisation Smoke Alarms.

A New Smoke Alarm Legislation has come into effect on 1 January 2017 specifying that all existing smoke alarms manufactured more than 10 years ago and faulty smoke alarms, must be replace with hardwired photoelectric type smoke alarms that comply with Australian Standard 3786-2014.

Photoelectric smoke alarms are generally more effective than ionisation types because they ‘see’ the smoke by detecting visible particles of combustion.  They are good at detecting smouldering fires and dense smoke, and are not as prone to false alarms (from cooking etc.).  Queensland Fire and Emergency Services recommends all homes are fitted with photoelectric smoke alarms.

Ionisation smoke alarms ‘feel’ the smoke.  Ionisation alarms are good at detecting fast flaming fires with little visible smoke. These alarms detect invisible combustion particles and activate quickly.  This type of alarm can be triggered easily if placed too close to cooking.

Frog Electrical Works can test existing smoke alarms, supply and install new quality Australian standard smoke alarms and always offer competitive pricing.
